POP EXPEDITION

In a surprising move, award-winning classical composer Ekrem Eli Phoenix is embarking on a new musical expedition into the realm of pop.

Known primarily for his contributions to art music with international acclaim, Phoenix sets out on this journey with the intention of looking into what pop music can be, could do, is not likely to do but if it did it'd be glorious. Creating new ear worms that’ll seep into our collective subconscious and micro-dose joy into our lives, Phoenix believes that joy can be a rebellious act in today's complex world, and ‘Beach Body' is his raucous manifesto to that end.

Beach Body is a grooving, off-centre electropop song, with whispered lead vocals and a minimalist production elevated by a choir (VOX singers from Sydney Philharmonia). With its sultry vibe, the song plays on the absurdity of the very concept that gives it its title… Our relationship to our bodies is complex and it is further complicated by a whole tonne of factors. In amongst the noise, the simple fact that;  if our body’s on the beach it is a beach body, is forgotten.

If we’re lying on the sand, if we’re working on our tan, it simply is a beach body. This song is to remember this at a cellular level!
